  Exploring Weaving: The Dancing Tiger Team at 2021 Visual Arts Center Today, The Dancing Tiger team had the pleasure of attending a fantastic weaving workshop at the 2021 Visual Arts Center, led by the talented Abby Wall. The free workshop was an introduction to weaving, and we were excited to dive into this traditional yet versatile craft. As we arrived, all the equipment was neatly set out, ready for us to begin. The session started with preparing our looms—we double-wound them and carefully selected our yarns, considering colors and textures to create unique woven pieces. To secure our weaves, we began with a twinning stitch, a foundational technique that helps anchor the threads. From there, we moved into the main weaving process, learning how to control tension while working in a diagonal direction. The use of a comb was essential in keeping our weave neat and even. One of the most interesting parts of the session was discovering how to adapt our weaving techniques when switching between different yarn thicknesses. Scunthorpe's Dancing Tiger Scrapstore CIC Named Finalist for Green Growth Awards Local community scrapstore, The Dancing Tiger Scrapstore CIC has made it to the final of awards after impressing judges for their approach to driving growth through sustainability.   19 February 2025: The Dancing Tiger Scrapstore CIC has been selected as a finalist for the first-ever ‘Green Growth Awards’, a new national competition recognising small businesses leading the way in embracing sustainability to innovate and drive business growth.   Launched by Small Business Britain, in partnership with BT, the inaugural Green Growth Awards will award two sustainability grants of £5000 to two small businesses that have successfully boosted their bottom line by implementing sustainable initiatives. The grants will help provide additional funding for businesses to invest further in this area.   Lucy Hewes and Lillie Allen who co-founded The Dancing Tiger Scrapstore CIC, a community scrapstore dedicated to reducing waste and promoting creative reuse, in 2023 have made it to the final round of the awards after impressing judges with their commitment to green growth. Crafting Cosplay Magic: A Recap of Our Unforgettable Making Session Our recent cosplay-making session at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, hosted in collaboration with Volunteen, was magical! As The Dancing Tiger Scrapstore, we love bringing creative opportunities to the community, and this event was a fantastic celebration of craft, cosplay, and collaboration. With 27 projects on the go, the variety of creations was incredible—from intricate staffs and ears to whimsical moving tails, fluffy feet, elaborate headpieces, and elegant neck ruffles. Each participant received their kit, complete with all the necessary materials and a set of clear instructions to guide them through the crafting process. Building on the incredible designs from our previous session, where participants planned and sketched their ideas, this session brought those concepts to life. Using their designs as a guide, everyone combined their creativity with the materials in their kits to craft unique, personalized cosplay pieces. It was amazing to see their initial ideas take shape, with each project reflecting the individuality and imagination of its maker.
